How Solar PV Works
- Sunlight shines on your solar panels. The silicon-based material in your panels reacts with the sunlight and generates energy.
- Energy generated from your solar panels is direct current or DC electricity.
- DC electricity from your panels is fed into your inverter where it is converted to alternating current or AC electricity. Alternatively, DC electricity can also be fed into your battery where it is stored to be used later, when grid electricity is more expensive or, at night time when your solar system is not generating.
- AC electricity from your inverter is fed to your supply panel, where it is either used by your home or exported to the grid.

Up To € 2,100
SEAI are helping accelerate Irish homeowners toward a clean energy future through grants of up to € 2,100.
Grant availability is subject to meeting certain conditions and must be applied for before progressing with a Solar PV installation.

Available Grants for Businesses
Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA)
The ACA is a tax incentive that allows a business that pays corporation tax in Ireland to deduct the full cost of the equipment from their profits in the year of purchase through your annual returns.
Micro-generation Support Scheme
The MSS is targeting support for installed microgeneration capacity of solar renewables under the Climate Action Plan. Applicants will be eligible to receive a Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) tariff.
Non-Domestic Microgen Grant
Assistance for businesses to install solar PV for onsite generation. Grant funding is available for systems up to a maximum of 1000 kWp. Funding amounts are capped to a maximum of €162,600.
Exeed Certified Grant
For organisations who are planning an energy investment project. Grant support of up to €1,000,000 per project is available. There are specific criteria to avail of this grant.
Grants for Farmers and Communities
TAMS Grants for Agriculture
Agricultural operations can benefit from 40-60% through the TAMS grants. Operations can also benefit from the new feed-in tariff supports. Certain criteria is required to avail of the TAMS grant.
Better Energy Communities
BEC is a nationwide programme, designed to deliver cleaner, cheaper energy by upgrading existing buildings overseen by SEAI. To avail of the BEC grant, projects must meet certain criteria.
Pobal Government Grants
Pobal works on behalf of the Government to support communities and local agencies towards achieving social inclusion and development, including energy upgrades.
